Former Bachelorette star Katie Thurston has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is facing the challenge with strength and resilience.
In an emotional Instagram post on Saturday, February 15, the 34-year-old opened up about her diagnosis: “Life update: I have breast cancer,” she shared. “Yesterday, I watched as couples posted their sweet Valentine’s Day moments, and if I’m being honest, I felt a bit envious. Jeff [Arcuri] and I had planned a romantic trip to Hawaii, followed by an adventure around the world, before settling down in NYC. But instead, my Valentine’s Day was spent arranging a place to stay, as I must return to LA for further testing and treatment.”
Thurston’s courage and determination to battle this illness head-on shine through as she navigates this unexpected chapter of her life.
Katie Thurston has been navigating her breast cancer diagnosis with incredible strength and determination, revealing more details of her journey in a heartfelt Instagram post.
She shared, “This morning, I spent my time figuring out insurance for NYC and understanding laws on preexisting conditions. I’ve scheduled appointments for another biopsy, fertility, mental health, surgery, and met with my team to discuss my treatment plan, which will include chemotherapy.”
In the midst of all this, Thurston is also in the process of relocating from California to New York with her fiancé, Jeff Arcuri, who proposed in 2024 after several months of dating. She expressed her deep gratitude to him, saying, “To my extraordinary husband-to-be @jarcuri, I don’t know how I’d do this without you. The selfless love you shower me with is beyond anything I could’ve imagined. I love you to the fullest in this lifetime and the next.”
Thurston revealed that she received her diagnosis earlier this month, sharing the emotional rollercoaster she’s been on since: “I’ve experienced a range of emotions — despair, anger, sadness, denial, and then strength. Purposeful. Ready. I cried a lot,” she recalled. “I even tried making a video instead of this post and couldn’t. But one thing I did early on was search for stories like mine — young women with breast cancer. Their stories helped me more than I could ever put into words.”
She concluded, “So now, I intend to be that support for others. This is day one of sharing, and it’s going to be a long journey. Accepting my reality was the hardest part. But I am ready to fight.”
Her message has sparked an outpouring of support from her Bachelor Nation family. Jade Roper wrote, “Sending you all my love during this time, Katie. Cancer doesn’t know who it’s dealing with, you got this. ❤️❤️❤️.” Jasmine Goode also offered her prayers, saying, “I’m so sorry Katie. Praying for you! You got this 💓.” Justin Glaze, who appeared on Thurston’s season of The Bachelorette, added, “Sending you love and prayers, Katie.”
